Imagine this scene: A girl boss is dressed to-the-tee for the meeting of a lifetime. She wants to make an impression so she surely won’t forget to spritz with her go-to power-fragrance. She wants the scent to last all day, so she gives a couple of extra spritzes for good measure. She rapidly rubs her wrists together, grabs her bag, and heads out the door.
For many of us, this scene is far too familiar. What you may not know is that the spritzing technique we’ve been using for years is all wrong! Applying perfume, much like choosing a fragrance that suits you, is a subtle art. It takes some practice to really make your scent glow. Here are 4 things perfume-applying faux-pas we should correct to make our scents last into the night.
So many of us think of adding perfume as the last and final touch to our getting-ready routine, almost like the “cherry-on-top”. Like our Girlboss in the story above, most of us apply our perfumes when our skin is completely dry.
An ideal application method is to apply it just after you get out of the shower. When your skin is moist, which will help it lock in your fragrance. For extra longevity, apply an unscented moisturizing lotion before dabbing on your perfume. Moisturized skin helps to keep the scent anchored, making your favorite scent last longer.
Is our Girlboss the only one out there that applies perfume just on her wrists? We’ve done it too! Besides our wrists, there are other important places on our bodies that we should also be applying our fragrance.
A better approach is to dab or spray perfume onto the various ‘pulse points’ around your body. Think of these as the places where your blood flows close to the surface of the skin. The heat from these pulse points helps the perfume radiate evenly throughout your day. Next time you apply your fragrance, focus on applying to your wrists, neck, and over your heart. For an extra special occasion, give the back of your knees a spritz too!
Contrary to just about everything we knew about applying our perfume, it turns out that rubbing is not the correct way. If you’re like us, we thought that if you rub it in, you’re really locking it into your skin! Well, we can just call ourselves older and wiser for learning that rubbing your perfume into your skin is a habit we’ll all have to ditch.
The friction caused by rubbing the wrists creates heat, which burns the fragrance off faster – especially the top notes. This makes your perfume evaporate much faster than it normally would. Some experts even think that rubbing your skin brings out enzymes which more quickly degrade the perfume.
Next time you apply your fragrance, resist the urge to rub! Instead, after you’ve dabbed, sprayed, or rolled your fragrance, just allow it to dry naturally!
When you want your scent to last all day, you might be tempted to spray a couple of extra times. While we may think that this packs on the fragrance to make it last longer, all it really will do, is make your smell too strong for a few hours. There is no guarantee that it will stay as strong for the entirety of your day (and quite possibly, you’ll still lose it by the end of the day).
The better method is reapplication! Give yourself little booster sprays (or rolls) throughout the day. When your first application has somewhat faded, perhaps after lunch or on your way to happy hour, spray on a bit more. A great on-the-go option is to have our travel rollies in your favorite scent on hand for these touch-up moments. Perfect for your purse, or in your desk drawer!
With these simple tricks, you'll be a perfume-applying pro in no time!
We can't wait to go on adventures with you.

Looking for a way to cut down on clutter without sacrificing comfort and efficiency? Here are our top 6 travel carry-on essentials for the ultimate hassle-free trip. Check out our must-haves below.
1. Headphones
Most domestic flights do not provide complimentary headphones, so don't forget to pack your own and prepare a relaxing playlist for the flight.
2. Face Mask or Hydrating Mist
Combat the less than ideal in-flight air by bringing along a travel size facial mist or your favorite soothing face mask. Not only will your skin feel hydrated and rejuvenated after a long flight, but it's also a great way to relax and decompress during your trip.
In our opinion, there's nothing more important than feeling comfortable while traveling and arriving refreshed and smelling good. Our favorite way to feel beautiful is by rolling one of our signature Skylar scents. Skylar Rollies are the perfect in-purse accessory for freshening up mid-flight, or when you land. Layer two fragrances during your flight to indulge in moments of bliss.
4. Portable Battery Charger
Most domestic flights do not have charging ports located near your seat. Whether it's calling an uber after your arrival or sending the family a text to say you've landed, having a charged phone upon arrival is important. We recommend bringing a portable charger to avoid any last minute mobile emergencies.
5. A Healthy Snack
Avoid being lured into purchasing unhealthy in-flight snacks like candy bars and chips by bringing a few healthy snacks with you. Not only will you be able to avoid the high cost, but you'll also rest easy knowing you've prioritized nutrition and clean eating. We recommend raw almonds and dried fruits!
6. A Good Book
There's nothing more relaxing than curling up to a good book on a long flight. No matter where your flight takes you, enjoy a literary adventure during the journey.

Our team welcomed its newest member Capri - a citrus, zesty, sparking scent, to our fragrance collection on July 12th, 2018, with a beautiful launch party hosted by our CEO Cat Chen. Sparkling prosecco, giant balloon bubbles and heavenly cheese plates were just some of the incredible guests that made an appearance last Thursday. We wanted the event to feel as close to Capri as possible and invited our Skylar gals to come celebrate with us at a mediterranean inspired home. Lined with beautiful olive and lemon trees, surrounded by luscious grass and foliage and adorned with sparkling lights overhead, this venue brought back waves of that ultra-relaxed, just-out- of-the-water, no-work-tomorrow, sun-in-your-hair moment Capri was crafted to create.
Dreamt up by our own Skylar customer, Dallas Daws Welch, and voted on by our Skylar gals (with thousands of votes), this scent was truly created by and for real women, and we couldn’t have been happier celebrating its launch with our beautiful Skylar ladies. Check out some of our pictures from the event below!
Our master perfumer Sarah Horrowitz showing our Skylar gals Capri for the first time and explaining the process that went behind the making of Capri.
A few "Capri" inspired drinks: Peach bellinis, Lemon drops and Sparkling prosecco, sponsored by our friends Infuse Spirits.
A Capri sample is now available in our sample palette, be sure to check it out and tell us where Capri transports you! Layering Isle and Capri is a perfect pop and lift, while the floral accord in Meadow blends beautifully with Capri's bright notes of bergamot and Neroli creating a super feminine and gorgeous combination.
